Rochester Looks To The Sky
Early Aviation in Rochester
Although history tells us aviation started with the Wright brothers in 1903, it wasn’t until 1909-1910 that aviation really got ‘off the ground’ and the public took notice. Rochester was no exception to aviation fever, beginning with the organization of the Rochester Aero Club in 1909 and the first flights here in 1910.
In this presentation by Bill Sauers, president of the Greece Historical Society, we will hear a short history of early aviation to include a discussion on Rochester’s aviation pioneers. We will explore the first airfields in this area and learn how Rochester contributed to aviation during World War I. A brief history of the Rochester International Airport will also be discussed.
Don’t just ‘fly by’!
