William Henry (1756 – 1846)
William Henry served in the Revolutionary War under Captain Abraham Sedgwick’s company of Connecticut minutemen and marched to Lexington in April 1775. Later as a sergeant under General Lee, he marched to New York City in January 1776 to assist with building fortifications.
William Henry arrived in Parma around 1813 and purchased land on the west side of South Ave. (where the Fireman’s Field is today). He also purchased a farm on the northeast corner of Burritt Road and Hilton Parma Corners Road (Rt. 259). The family homestead was located on the top of South Hill and remained in the family until 1908.
William Henry died on April 19, 1846, at the age of 90 and is buried in the Smith-Dunbar cemetery on the corner of Dunbar Road and North Avenue. Henry Street in the Village of Hilton and located on land once owned by his descendants, is named in his honor.
